The School Social Work Association of America (SSWAA) recently recognized Sheri Koller, a social worker for the Long Beach Unified School District, for completing the rigorous portfolio process to become a National Certified School Social Worker (NCSSW).
Koller is the third school social worker nationwide to receive the NCSSW certification and the first in the state of California. The certification is the highest level of certification available in the field of school social work.
The credential is awarded to school social work professionals who have voluntarily sought and obtained an advanced practice certification that demonstrates mastery of the nine competencies of the National School Social Work Practice Model.
Koller is an expert in the field of student mental health and suicide prevention. She is an experienced clinician who focuses on individual and family therapy, supervision, program development, 宣传, data analysis, crisis intervention and training.
With more than 20 years serving 菠菜网lol正规平台 students, Koller has played an instrumental role in the District’s initiatives to provide mental health resources. Her history with the 菠菜网lol正规平台 traces back to the early 2000s when she provided onsite mental health counseling to 菠菜网lol正规平台 schools, coordinated mental health referrals and supervised staff through her employment with The Guidance Center, an agency funded by the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health. In 2016, Koller officially joined 菠菜网lol正规平台 and is currently in her second year serving as the District's mental health consultant.
“I am thrilled to become the third school social worker in the nation to receive the NCSSW accolade. As a certification of advanced proficiency, the process involved submitting a portfolio of skills and services provided, and writing nine competency papers,” shared Koller. “I am passionate about school social work services, and am grateful for the opportunity as it will assist me in providing excellent services for 菠菜网lol正规平台 students and communities.”
